Just lucky I guess

So here we are just 3 days before the District Safety Workshop and guess what...I've been asked to speak again. I guess I should be happy that someone recognises my passion for Safety!!
I already was tossing some thoughts around including this blog. I'm afraid the blog is on hold at least as far as giving it out at the safety workshop. I will continue to post pending approval to release the blog site to other safety groups.
We have had 1 tier 3 crash thus far in 2009. An air driver who cut a corner tight and hit a car headon. Not the best of ways to start the new year. I also learned that several safety groups had a complete turnover during last year. That is very disturbing and I hope it doesn't become a trend! It can get frustrating at times when it seems no one cares...for those who are experiencing this I say HANG IN THERE!!! You may never know what message saved a life!
That is one of the reasons I started this blog...so you know that your not alone, and to share ideas with each other. I will be speaking about some of our best ideas from last year at the District Safety Workshop. Hope to see you there!!! SAFETY BY CHOICE...NOT BY CHANCE!!

District Safety Meetings

So here we are just starting a New Year 2009 and it is time once again for the District Safety Meeting. This will be the 6th annual Metro-Detroit (or now Michigan District?) Safety Meeting I believe! I'm really looking forward to this years meeting since I haven't been asked to speak at it...yet! I learn so much talking with the other drivers and managers.
Take last years meeting held on Jan. 22, 2008 as an example...
  • We were the #1 Health and Safety operation in the country!
  • There were 66 fatalities involving UPSers in 2007
  • 16 of those were UPS employee's!!!
  • 4 of those fatalities occured in the YARD!
  • 1 of the fatalities was in our district and involved a person hit
  • For every 300 AT RISK BEHAVIORS there will be 29 minor and 1 serious injury if nothing is done!!
  • For SAFETY to be effective it MUST become a personal value!
  • 96% OF INJURED HAVE ALREADY BEEN TALKED TO ABOUT AN AT RISK BEHAVIOR!!!!!
  • And BEST PRACTICES that is a list too long to copy but invaluable!!!!!!!

GREAT STUFF!!! And I know this years meeting will be more of the same!! I will post on highlights of this years meeting and even try to get some pictures. Until then remember SAFETY BY CHOICE...NOT BY CHANCE!
